The World's Top Mining Companies


There was a 3 percent rise in global gold mining in the third quarter of 2009 to 659 tonnes. The main contributor to this was the increase in gold production in Australia, with Argentina and Mexico producing a high volume for the year. There was a production decline in Indonesia, Peru and Russia but the global gold mine production still increased as a whole. The gold price also hit a record high with many gold buying companies encouraging customers thinking of selling gold to 'sell your gold whilst the price is high'.

Below are some of top gold mining companies across the globe in relation to 2010.

Newmont Mining Corporation mines in eight countries across five continents. These include North and South America, Asia, Australia and Africa. At the end of 2009 this company had gold reserves of almost 92 million equity ounces and a rough land aggregation of 39,000 square miles. Newmont Mining Corporation was focused on production in Boddington, Australia, amongst a recent placement that is private with Eurasian Minerals Inc.

Barrick Gold Corporation is the world's largest miner of pure gold. This company operates 26 gold mines and is estimated to have almost 140 million ounces of proven, probable gold reserves. Their goal is to; "...to be the world's best gold company by finding, acquiring, developing and producing quality reserves in a safe, profitable and socially responsible manner."

Anglo Ashanti are based in South Africa operating a total of 21 gold mines across four continents and ten countries. This includes America, Tanzania, Namibia, Mali, South Africa and Brazil. At the end of 2009 their proved and probable ore reserves were 74.1 million ounces. This company wants to become the world's leading gold mining company whilst respecting natural environments and minimizing costs.

Kinross is a Canadian based gold mining company with eight operations in Ecuador, Chile, Brazil, Russia and America. Last year Kinross was said to have a gold reserve of around 46 million ounces. This company is committed to ensuring its workers are safe and maintaining the environment as much as possible.

Yamana Gold is based in Canada and has signification gold production in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Mexico. This company has as estimated 19.4 million ounces of gold reserves and 46.4 million ounces of total mineral resource. Yamana Gold reported strong earnings with an increased revenue growth in the third quarter of 36 percent to $454 million.
