Top 10 Unknown Toilet-Related Facts

We all use toilets but there are certain facts that very few people know. Even though these facts will serve you no purpose once you are aware of the, it is always fun to keep them in mind! What’s more, they can make interesting conversation pieces if you have absolutely nothing to talk about.
1. First Flushing
Movies in the past never showed scenes that had toilets flushing. It was considered to be indecent and vulgar. The well-known movie, Psycho was the first to do so and allow other movies to follow suit. The fact that Norman Bates was off his rocker distracted them enough to ignore that a toilet was being flushed on screen.
2. Air Fresheners
Air fresheners today have become extremely necessary, especially in public bathrooms. However, they were quite unheard of several decades back but when people realized that it was impossible to stand in an overused bathroom, somebody went ahead and mixed cloves with pomegranates and the first air freshener was created!
3. Three Years
You may not, but some people actually calculate the time they end up wasting, sitting on the toilet on a daily basis. The answer is- 3 years! That’s right- the average human being will spend about 1,095 days on the toilet. Maybe its time to remove the magazines from the bathroom shelf!
4. The First Cubicle
According to studies and research, the first cubicle in toilets is usually avoided by people. This is because they feel that it will be the dirtiest as it will be used most often. However, fact is that it is actually the cleanest out of all because people walk right past it!
5. Sponge
The Roman army was not given access to any toilet paper so they decided to attach a sponge onto a stick and soak it in water. Needless to say, it was much more efficient than a scrap of toilet paper! It makes one wonder whether the toilet industry should start selling these devices.
6. Superbowl Flushing
The Superbowl is an event that is watched in America religiously. People spend hours before the television and go through gallons and gallons of soft drinks and beer without realizing it. Therefore, it has been determined that the average American toilet is flushed the most during the superbowl when compared to any other time of the year.
7. Lack of Toilets
Countries like China and India do not have proper toilet facilities, especially for women because of which over 1.8 million people die every year. Sadly, children are affected more than adults.
8. The Toilet Handle
Most men and women don’t wash their hands after using the toilet. Therefore, it is no wonder that the toilet handle is covered with over 40,000 germs and viruses per square inch.
9. Siphon Flush System
The toilet was invented by somebody else but Thomas Capper improved the flush system that is used all over the world today. Thanks to him we do not have to throw buckets and buckets of water into the toilet with the hope of cleaning the bowl.

10. Dirty British Toilets

It is not difficult to make a toilet dirty- just stop cleaning it for a month and you will see results. The British are obviously aware of this fact because their public toilets are the dirtiest. A survey in 1992 established this fact and it was voted than Thailand was next in line.
